Here's one exchange during the "question time":
Girl in class: (hand raised high) My auntie had cancer.
Me (Matt): (...wondering if I missed the question...)
Teacher: Kids, remember this isn't a time to share about yourselves.
Me: (feeling bad for the little girl) So how is your aunt doing now?
Girl: She didn't make it.
Me: (ummm...) I'm really sorry about that.
Me again: You guys know that there are lots of different kinds of cancer, right...?
Ahhh, fifth grade.
Aidyn's teachers, principal, and school nurse have all been great and are making the transition back into school really easy for us all. Of course, we're all lobbying for less make-up homework. We'll see.

I wish I was your teacher, Aidyn! I don't give make-up work unless I think a kid was faking it or just skipping school! I think you have a well-documented absence! Those fifth graders!! Gotta love 'em!
Glad you are back at school so fast, Aidyn! I will continue to pray for you all and God's extra grace as your sort through a "new normal".
Blessings,

It's amazing that on facebook I see birthdays pop up. Then when I go to the person's page, I see people commenting about what's going on with that person. Sorry to hear what's been going on, but thanking God that things are going better at the moment. It's been so long since I've seen you, Kristin...well, your whole family. Say hi to them for me - better yet, give them hugs for me. I'll keep you in my prayers. In the meantime...(go to your facebook page)...
